I thought I could get to Blacktail Mountain by taking a back road, but it turned out to be a disaster. The road I chose ended up going straight up the mountainside and was insanely rocky and washed out! I got a flat tire and lost my muffler at the same time! I had to put on the silly doughnut spare on the side of the mountain. Fortunately, the spare managed to get me back to civilization and the tire store was still open. I told the tire people that I must have hit a sharp rock. He say, "actually, it looks like you ran over a nail." A nail!? On the side of a mountain? Maybe it was already in my tire and a sharp rock ripped it out of the tire? The lesson I learned today: just because the GPS says there is a road there doesn't mean you should drive on it!

I discovered this road today. So, it is possible to go from Kila to Flathead Lake without going through Kalispell!
